In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My finished media magazine has a wide range of media conventions. The front cover of my magazine uses the same features of a music magazine already on the market. I have done this by studying magazines and identifying the features that make the magazines stand out against other magazines already on the market. Some key features on the front of magazines already on the market is the use of capital letters and puffs.

Here are two examples of puffs that i have included on my front cover to my magazine. The pull quotes here are used to draw attention to potential buyers to the magazine, the use of capital letters also makes the quotes stand out.
Below shows where i have used both of theses conventions. The use of block capitals make the magazines text scream out to the viewers, this is because block capitals are bold and stand out to the human eye. In the designing process of the magazine I felt I needed a bold text on the front page of my magazine as quite a busy page so I wanted the title to be a central focus this has a similar effect to the magazine 'NME' nme has a busy front page but uses a bold title to make it stand out against the busy background, this has worked efficiently for NME as there a well known music magazine by there title.
Below is an example of how NME title stands out against the background:
The title beside also shows how the NME title is so well known because of the use of a bold font. It is also partly covered this suggest to us the company is confident in the fact the magazines title is well known so they feel comfortable to be able to cover the title by there feature artist. The fact the magazine company NME can do this is because they started off with NME being bold so it stood out until people knew the name because my magazine is only recently being distributed into the music industry I feel its safer for the title not to be overlayed by the feature artist however because im using a bold font i feel the name will be known quickly so this is therefore something i would like to progress too for future magazines.
Another media convention that my magazine uses well is the use of puffs. Puffs are quotes about the magazine used to draw attention to the page. The front page of my magazine summertime madness has used a handful of useful puffs i feel work really well at selling the magazine and drawing attention to the potential buyer. I feel puffs are a good source of small amounts of information that make you want to buy the magazine. A variety of music magazine that I studied all used puffs i feel this is because it makes the magazine more sell-able to the target audience. The better the puff the more magazines will sell because the puff is used to sell the magazines stories in a line or phrase, puffs can take the most dramatic/exciting line out of an article and make you want to read that article therefore the magazine might be brought just because of that one article the buyer wants to read. This is a sneaky thing many magazines all across the country will do, it makes the buyer want the magazine. This is similar to the use of feature artists, many magazine companies use popular feature artists to sell there magazine as they aim the magazine at the feature artists fan the more fans the feature artist has the more magazines will be brought as the fans may have never brought the magazines brand before but will buy it to read the article. This is why i have decided to include a feature artists in my magazine. The fact my feature artists are advertised on the front of the magazine will draw in there fans meaning more magazines will be sold, ive included three feature artists in my magazine so the fans of theses will buy the magazine to read there article. The more feature artists the magazine includes the more likely the magazine is to sell.
This video is advertising a feature artist on the front cover of NME i found this video particularly interesting as it shows you how the magazines front page is put together but advertises the artist at the same time, the video shows you which media conventions are used but is also a good way to market then magazine:

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I feel my magazine represents its social group effectively. I feel the look I've created for the magazine portrays the magazines in the right genre and just by looking at the magazine people will recognize what type of magazine it is and what age range the magazine is aimed at. I feel the magazine represents a genre of young adults between the ages of 17-25 years, I chose this age range for many reasons one of the main reasons being the fact this is the general age range that tend to be more popular with media . I feel the magazine would be most suited to this age range, the use of my feature artist will represent the social group I'm aiming to target my magazine at because of the way she is represented, I feel the kind of people that will buy this magazine will somehow relate to my artist and be similar in the way they look and the way they dress. Therefore I wanted to keep to the bright colour scheme and theme of summer to relate to my readers personality, I want my magazine to have an overall appearance of summer and summer moods so have used bright text and lightening themes to uplift the mood of the readers, I feel this will relate well to the different types of social groups that will buy my magazine. The summer atmosphere is shown through the light soft colours used theses colours embrace summer even through the winter months that's why I chose the theme of summer. I chose the social group of festival goers as i feel there a very wide range of people to target, festival goers vary in there fashion and there music taste but on a wide scale its the same genre of music but has a large range of different feature artists i could include therefore the market would expand because the viewers would buy the magazine for the feature artists if i can include more feature artists my target market will expand.

What kind of media institute might distribute your magazine and why?
What kind of media institute might distribute your magazine and why?
I feel many magazine company's will distribute my magazine because of its appeal to a wide range of target audience. IPC media London is a classic example of a common magazine company that distributes a wide range of media, I feel it would be a good company to distribute my magazine with as it has a high pass rate of successful music magazines and sells magazines which are extremely popular such as 'NOW' and 'NME'. I feel this company would be most efficient to distribute my magazine due to the fact that 'NME' is one of the most successful magazines within the music industry was sold through this company meaning IPC media has experience with music magazines and the music industry therefore i would feel happy for this company to distribute my magazine and would hopefully get a good success rate because of the company's experience with the music industry. However becuase the company has already distributed a very successful music magazine it would mean there was more competition within the industry to get a successful publish which is always something i should consider when distributing my magazine.I also feel another bonus about the company is the fact it sells a variety of different media category's so therefore this shows me that the company has a good selling rate in a variety of different companies this tell us that alot of company's put there trust in IPC to distribute there magazines this shows that the company is a trustworthy company.

Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel you've learnt from the progression form to the full project?
Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel you've learnt from the progression form to the full project?
Looking back on my preliminary project I feel it was good as an introduction into media, I also felt that the preliminary project was a learning curve as if I was to redo this project I would have gone more into depth within my research. The project was a good start into the media course as it introduced key words that link into the media world. I feel over the past couple of months media has given me the time to expand and progress my knowledge making the outcome of my final magazine better than the final outcome of the preliminary project.I feel my music magazine has a more professional look compared to my preliminary project worry page, the magazine i have produced creates that professional look because of the research to back it up with i feel the problem page for my preliminary project lacked. After some research for my music magazine I now feel I understand what key features and ideas are needed to write a magazine and how they should be used most effectively, I feel this is a skill that develops over time that's why you can see the change between both of the magazines. This change is shown in the layout of the magazine the music magazine shows a simple but detailed layout compared to the preliminary project which shows a busy layout, both magazines should show similar features as they are both aimed at the same target audience therefore should both be similar it some way which fails to show. Another fault with the preliminary project is the fact it doesn't use box text, this makes the layout of the page appear unorganised and will make it hard for the audience to read. The music magazine has a detailed but organised effect therefore will be more appealing to read to the target audience as it looks attractive.

who would be the audience of your media product?
who would be the audience of your media product and why?
My target audience for my magazine is aimed at 17-25 years who are festival goers. When planning my magazine I felt it would be aimed more at females, as my magazine has developed and after producing the final outcome I feel its aimed at both males and females due to the layout and genre of the magazines front page. This is also due to the social group my magazine fits into would be aimed at both boys and girls as they both go to festivals so therefore will attract the same type of music genre. The magazines theme creates a summer atmosphere and summer is a season that everyone loves therefore the magazine will appeal to a larger range of target audience and will become more sell-able. The theme of summer also links into festivals that why i have chosen to aim my magazine at this social group of festival goers. The theme of summer was used because it creates a loveable atmosphere as summer is a season everyone loves that's why I decided to use this theme. I tired to portray the summer atmosphere through the use of colour, setting, lighting and the use of models. I used colour to portray the theme by using light colours like blues and reds to attract the attention of the target audience the colour linked into the setting as the lighter colours were used on the outdoor settings this also linked into my main theme of summer and festivals. The model in my magazine was used to portray what i feel my target audience would look like as they will see the magazine and automatically be able to relate to the model creating a larger group for the magazine to be sold to as the model i have used also creates a glamorous look, from the glamorous look i have created a fashion section within the magazine this will also expand the target market and sell more magazines. The fashion section of the magazine will be aimed at both males and females because the magazine genre is indie urban music it will sell this type of clothing if the fashion section is aimed at both sexes it will sell more magazines because it comes as a extra benefit of buying the magazine. Extra quotes on the front of the magazine are also advertising extra benefits to my target audience of buying the magazine theses quotes are ' 26 FESTIVALS THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND' and 'EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MUSIC' this quotes are known as pull quotes because they pull the audience into the magazine, theses quotes will help to sell the magazine by making it look like it contains extra benefits for the reader.
I decided to stick with the same target audience of festival goers through out the planning of the magazine and feel as the outcome has been produced its still a good target audience to aim my magazine at. This is due to the fact the criteria for the planning of the magazine was a 'music' magazine so i wanted to keep the idea of a 'festival mag' and the type of music played at a festival this is why i aimed my magazine at the 'indie/urban' target market.
The video below shows the extent of how many people go to festivals:
